Tintern Abbey was founded in 1131 by the Anglo-Norman lord of Chepstow. He granted land to monks from the Cistercian Abbey in France. They began work on this superb Gothic Church (in ruins) in 1269 and it was consecrated in 1301. I love the soaring arches and the delicate stonework of the large windows.
